Bharathakalai’s Mission
What does the dance School stand for?

For over 38 years through teaching her regular student base, performances, conducting workshops & lecture demonstrations in schools, colleges, museums and through cross cultural collaborations; Guru Jayshree has been tirelessly making Bharathanatyam more accessible to the wider community by demystifying it which then allows for true appreciation.
Given the historical beginnings of our dance form, we dancers truly believe our dance is a spiritual practice. The mind, the body and the soul come together as one to communicate with the rasik - the audience, who are then able to assimilate the emotions coming out of the dancer and in return get immersed in those very emotions to take that joint spiritual journey.
This is what makes this dance form so unique, so powerful, so meaningful and all the while maintaining a beauty that is felt jointly by the dancer and the viewer. This is what Jayshree Bala Rajamani strives to instill in all her students, the ability to immerse themselves into their dance. This immersion can only be achieved through love for the dance, which then allows surrender to the dance form.
Guru Jayshree truly feels that if she can get one person, one child, one dancer to feel this love for Bharathanatyam, then she has succeeded in her goal to preserve and further this ancient dance form!
